'Pastiche//Self Portrait'

shortlisted March 2019, Women’s Art Prize Tasmania, touring exhibit, TAS

'Self Portrait//Pastiche' is an examination of the process to mediate identities and inhabit space as a woman of mixed heritage in contemporary Australia. Being too much of one, to be the other simultaneously. This piece references the Japanese ceramic technique, kintsugi, where broken pieces are repaired with gold to accentuate rather than hide the points and act of repair.

I pay my respects to the muwinina people as the traditional owners and custodians of the land and waters where I live and work.

I pay my deepest respect to their elders - past, present and emerging and I acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
